Dublin, Ireland:

Alsessor – an accelerator programme developed by Altada Technology Solutions in partnership with Tangent, Trinity College Dublin’s Ideas Workspace – hosted its second successful annual demo day last week which oversaw seven start-ups go head-to-head for the chance to win up to €250,000.

The winner, who banked the quarter of a million investment, was Shona D’Arcy, CEO and founder of Kids Speech Labs, a company which facilitates parents in providing speech and language support to their children from the comfort of their own home.

Shona developed a software named ‘SHARE’, a data-sharing platform for speech and language therapists to review early data on a child’s development and triage them to the appropriate services. The key issue they noticed was that the waiting list for speech therapy was extremely long, and the process is entirely manual.

Through SHARE, Kids Speech Labs predicts that 20% of families will get access to speech and language therapy remotely, allowing support to be accessed by those in need whilst freeing up in-person therapy for those with more complex speech impediments.

“The start-up journey is hard, but when you come across a programme like the Alsessor AI accelerator it makes it just a bit easier. We had an incredible cohort of companies, workshops, and mentors. This investment will accelerate the adoption of our technology across the UK and Ireland to deliver meaningful impacts to the lives of thousands of children,” said Shona D’Arcy

After observing the seven pitches it was evident that the potential within the start-ups is immense. There is an element of excitement amongst all the innovators as any one of these early companies could go on to make a true impact on the world.

“I am really impressed with the high standard of this year’s cohorts,” added Ken Finnegan, CEO at Tangent, Trinity’s Ideas Workspace. “

“It was such an incredibly hard decision for the judges and I am proud of the work each cohort put into their pitch. This is not the end of their journey; we will still continue supporting them and I have every confidence in their future growth. We’re already looking forward to Alsessor 2023,” added Mr Finnegan.
